My Dress Didn't Zip – Here's the DIY Bow Hack That Saved My Bridal Shower Look

I have to share the dress I wore for my bridal shower—it was this white satin strapless mini, and honestly, it ended up being exactly what I wanted for the day.

We kept things low-key and did the shower at a private backyard. It was one of those really nice spring afternoons—everything felt green and fresh, with pink roses draped around the trees and a little wooden pavilion where we set up the gifts and seating.

I took photos just about everywhere: leaning against a rose-covered tree, sitting on the patio bench surrounded by presents, and even a few getting-ready shots inside before we headed out. It was intimate and chill, which was exactly the vibe I was going for.

Now, about the sizing—I usually wear a 16, so I ordered that, and when it arrived, it was a bit snug in the back and wouldn’t quite zip all the way. I was bummed for a second, but I really wanted to make it work, so I got a little creative.

I bought a detachable satin bow and some thick white ribbon, reworked the corset lacing in the back, and used the bow to cover the open gap. It turned out better than I expected—people kept saying the bow was their favorite part of the whole outfit.

I also made a matching hair bow out of soft tulle and hand-sewed a few little pearl beads on it for some sparkle. It clipped right into my curled hair and looked way cuter than I thought it would.

Okay, one small thing—I totally forgot to iron the dress before putting it on. You can see a few wrinkles in some photos if you look closely, but I swear, it didn’t bother me at all once I had it on. The satin felt really nice too, almost luxurious for a shorter party dress.

A couple of friends even said it reminded them of a wedding gown, just in a mini length. I paired it with clear platform heels and some pearl bracelets, and that tied it all together.
