Short Wedding Dresses for Courthouse Ceremonies

Tried on like three dresses before this one and nothing clicked. Put this on and just didn't take it off.

Short, strapless, satin. Sounds basic but the fabric has this weirdly nice soft sheen — not sparkly, just kinda glows. Courthouse lighting is usually awful but this dress actually looked good in it, which I did NOT expect. We stepped outside after and it held up too, looked warmer in the sun, more cream than white.

The back has this lace-up crisscross thing. I honestly didn't even notice when I bought it. Saw it in photos later and went "oh wait that's actually really cute."

Walked fine, sat fine, spun around a bunch — my husband kept telling me to stop but I didn't. Skirt flares out just enough that you're not tripping over it every two seconds.

Veil was short with little pearls. Heels were white and hurt by hour two, whatever. Bouquet was tiny, wrapped in burgundy ribbon. My guy wore a dark suit and — total coincidence — a burgundy tie. We didn't plan that, realized it when we were already taking pictures and laughed about it.

Judge was some random older guy, super sweet. Said our vows, signed papers, took goofy escalator photos, then drove to a botanical garden nearby and took more.

Looking at the photos now and the dress doesn't look bunched up or weird in any of them. That's honestly what I care about most.

If you're overthinking your courthouse outfit — just go short and satin. You can actually move, you don't feel like you're wearing a costume, and you still feel bridal enough.
