Clean Bride, Castle Vibes: My Minimalist Off-Shoulder Gown in Poland

Clean Bride, Castle Vibes: My Minimalist Off-Shoulder Gown in Poland

Picking a wedding dress for a destination trip is basically a nightmare. We decided to do our ceremony in Szczecin, Poland, at the Pomeranian Dukes' Castle. You look at the photos online and it's all majestic white walls and green copper domes, and I was terrified my dress would either look too plain or get completely swallowed up by the architecture.

I landed on this off-shoulder gown with the slit. I was a bit nervous about the slit at first—like, is it too much for a castle? But I figured the high cut would be practical for the cobblestones, and oh boy, was I right.

I basically spent the whole day hiking up the skirt with one hand while trying not to trip over the archways. It looked effortless in the photos, but internally I was just praying I wouldn't faceplant on the stones.

The most surprising part was the back. It has this lace-up corset detail. Usually, I avoid corsets because I find them suffocating, but this one ended up being a lifesaver because we had a huge plate of pierogi the night before. I could just pull the laces a little tighter in the morning so the waist didn't look bloated. It really holds you in, but without feeling like a straightjacket.

My hair and makeup were super low-maintenance. I just did a twisted low bun because the wind in Szczecin was absolutely wild that day.

If I left any hair down, it would've been whipping into my eyes. I stuck to a tinted moisturizer, a nude lip, and just let the dress do the talking. Nothing over the top.

I will say, my husband looked sharp in his black suit as planned, but the lighting that day wasn't our friend.

We were both squinting in about half of the walking shots because the sun was so bright reflecting off the white walls. Not the end of the world, but definitely a "real life" moment.

In terms of the fabric, it has a nice weight to it. It's not flimsy, so the skirt holds that A-line shape really well, but it doesn't feel heavy on your shoulders at all.

I wore it for almost 8 hours—walks, photos, dinner—and by the end of the night, I wasn't desperate to tear it off, which I consider a massive win.

If you're looking for something simple but elegant for a European city wedding, this one really surprised me. Just bring a windbreaker for the walk between the castle and the car!
